Description

Famous composer, Joseph Jongen was born in Liège on 14th December 1873 and died on 12th July 1953 in Sart. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Liège. He possessed extraordinary musical talent. The Conservatory enabled him to triumph in all genres. From 1920 to 1939 he was a professor and later became Director of the famous Conservatory of Brussels. From 1910 to 1953 he composed  large parts of his work. In 1955, Fernand Jérôme (mayor of Sart) inaugurated a street and monument in his name. His house is still along the Avenue Joseph Jongen.
